UTK-12th Grade Multilingualism Awards
The L.A. Unified Promise to Biliteracy and Pathway to Biliteracy Awards honor students in all instructional programs who demonstrate a commitment to becoming bilingual and biliterate.

It's time to sign your student up for evaluation for the Promise to Biliteracy Award and Pathway to Biliteracy Award. TK, K, and 1st Grade students are eligible for the Promise award and 3rd and 5th Grade Students are eligible to receive the Pathway award. The criteria for each is posted on Beckford website: https://beckfordcharter.lausd.org. Click on Our School, then Multilingualism.
To sign up, please select the link to the Google Form pertinent to your grade level: The evaluation for UTK, K, and 1st grade is oral. Students must meet the criteria in both English and a second language. They need to perform three of the five criteria. Students may choose which items they would like to do. We want students to be successful and will support them by providing flexibility. If they struggle with one item, we will have them attempt another.
Students in third and fifth grades must show proficiency in English by meeting the criteria on the chart. They must complete a reading log in the second language. I handed out copies, and the log is also available on the website. 3rd and 5th grade students must also write to a prompt which will be graded according to a rubric. All evaluations and reading logs are due by March 14, 2025, therefore, depending on the number of students that sign up, we could begin the process of evaluation as early as mid-February.
